Series Bonanza!!!

So, I have been really addicted to series' lately.  Yes, that is series, plural.  I am in the middle of three series and I just finished a fourth one.  I love series books.  I am not sure where that love came from.  Maybe, it goes all the way back to my love of Baby-Sitters Club books or Goosebumps.  I also loved Choose Your Own Adventure books.  Nonetheless, I love series books.  If the book comes in a series, I am immediately intrigued.  This is probably why I am in the middle of three series and I just finished a fourth.

Let's start with the one I just finished.  From my last post, you all have probably gathered that I love the Maze Runner series.  Well, I just finished the last book The Death Cure.  This book was an interesting end to the series.  It continues along the path well, but I felt that it really ended horribly.  Maybe Dashner is planning on coming out with another (hint, hint, Dashner, if you're reading this :)).  I wasn't a big fan of the ending but I thought that, overall, it was a great conclusion to the series.  I stand firm on my belief that you should read this series if you liked The Hunger Games series.

OK, so the next series I have finally picked back up is The 39 Clues series.  I know, it's been forever since I've talked about that series!  I hadn't been able to get the next book in the series because it was always absent from the library.  Well, I just learned about this wonderful service the library offers where you request a book online and they will get the book (even from another library in their system) and place it on hold until you come pick it up.  I know, I am probably ages behind on this one, but I am in love.  I have been placing books on hold left and right lately and have been able to continue on with a lot of my series lately.  OK, so back to The 39 Clues.  When I last left of, the children had ended their hunt and found out they were a part of one of the families the other four branches didn't know existed.  The next book in the series, Vespers Rising, gives a through background on the original family
and how the Vespers came about.  This book is a great transition book before the children jump back into a hunt to save the entire Cahill family.  I just picked up the next book in the series, but I haven't started it yet so I will fill you in on that one next time.

The next series that I want to tell you all about is the Secret series.  The first book is called The Name of This Book is Secret and is written by Pseudonymous Bosch.  This is another series that is written for a younger crowd, but for all my fellow teachers out there, I read them so I have some literary weapons to give to my students.  I like to read these books so that not only can I recommend them, but then I can talk to the students about them and engage them in literary conversations.  Anyway, I have read the aforementioned first book and the second book, If You're Reading This, It's Too Late.  Both books have been excellent.  My sister is the one who turned me on to this series and I am passing the second book on to her.  It is great to have a reading buddy to discuss what is going on and how they liked it.  For example, she says that she didn't like the ending of the first book, whereas I liked it.  I think the book really keeps the reader thinking and guessing and I love them.  Great series and I can't wait to read the next one!

The last series is one that I am still iffy about.  I read the first book, The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart.  The first book was good, so I went ahead and picked up the second book in the series.  About this time is when I discovered the beauty of the hold option and I ended up getting four other books at once.  I decided to return the second book of this series and read the others.  The fact that I didn't want to continue reading the book, should show something.  They are good, but not amazing.  I want to read the whole series, but after I finish the others.  The first book is about an old man who recruits very smart children for his society to become spies at an institute that we later find out is run by Mr. Benedict's twin brother.  A lot of secrets are found out in the book and it was good.  The next book illustrates the children's journey continuing with the society and what that entails.  I want to read the next book and I will let you guys know what becomes of that.

Well, there is my plethora of series that I am currently addicted to.  I hope you enjoyed this latest installment and I will keep you updated as I continue on this reading journey!

Maze Runner Series

Hello everyone! Thanks for joining me again. I haven't really been reading for pleasure lately because I haven't been able to find any books at the library. :(. But I was able to snag the next book in the Maze Runner trilogy and that's what this post is going to be devoted to.

So, like I mentioned in my last post, I started reading the Maze Runner trilogy to fill the terrible void that Hunger Games left.  I started the first book a while back and I read it in a couple of days.  With school and the baby, that is fast for me right now!  I couldn't put it down.  I've since been scouring the shelves at the library for the next in the series.  I went this past weekend and happened to see it on a display shelf just as we were leaving.  It was fate!

The next book in the series is called The Scorch Trials.  This book is a great continuation.  It starts off explaining where they are and doing a short recap about what happened in the maze.  It then launches the reader directly into the next obstacle the children have to face and all of the challenges that go along with that.  There are many twists and turns in the book and you're not sure who to believe.  The ending makes me want to run out and get the next book (although, I checked and it's not at the library).  If the third book is anything like the first two, I will be very excited to read it!  This is a series that I definitely recommend.  I know that I recommended it already, but after reading book two, I say go out and get this series in whatever format you like to read books in now.  If you loved the Hunger Games series like I did, then I guarantee you will love the Maze Runner series just as much.

I hope you enjoyed this installment and I hope to be back soon with more books for your enjoyment.  Thanks for reading!

I'm back!

Hello everyone out there!  I know it has been forever and I promised an update, but I never got the time.  I just haven't really been reading a lot to be honest.  Most of it was books for school.  OK, here is what I have been reading.

I think I have given up on the Pretty Little Liars series.  It just wasn't really interesting.  There wasn't really anything that made me want to get the next book and continue, so I haven't been.  I think I am done with this series.

On a brighter note, while I've been gone I read books 7-10 of The 39 Clues series.  This series is still AMAZING!  I've finished book 10 a while ago and I've been trying to get my hands on the next book, but they are always out at my library.  I am going to try to head over there today to see if I can secure it!  This series is one that I highly recommend for upper elementary through adult.  They are entertaining and they have that thing that makes you want to get the next book and see what happens next.

OK, so every since I finished the Hunger Games trilogy, I have been searching for another series to fill it's place.  I think I found it.  I started reading The Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner   The first book was amazing.  The author does an amazing job at bringing in the reader and making you feel like you are in this horrible situation.  I think that anyone looking to fill the void that the Hunger Games has left should pick up this series and try it out.

One of my guilty pleasures is reading books by Nora Roberts.  I know what you're thinking, romance novels?  I think they are my books that I like to read to escape and just read.  For Christmas, my sister got me the last novel of one of her new series called The Perfect Hope.  This book was from her Inn BoonsBoro series and it finished the series well.  I also haven't read anything new because I was busy rereading a classic series from her called the dream trilogy.  These books have always been a favorite and they don't fit everyone's style, but if they are something that you are into, I highly recommend Nora Roberts.

The last series I want to fill you in on is one that I had to read for school and ended up finishing the series for pleasure.  The first book in the series is called The Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.  This is another dystopian series with some great characters.  The main character is female (yay, girl power!) and the series chronicles her life in this world where they change everyone at 16 with a surgery to make them "pretty".  It is an interesting series and I would definitely recommend it.  The first book is hard to get into and like I said, I had to read the first book for a class and then ended up finishing the series on my own.  Definitely something work checking out.

Well, I pretty much caught you all up with everything I have been reading lately.  I hope to get to the library today and get some new books so look for a new post coming soon!  Thanks for reading!
