Update...New books

Hello all.  Sorry about the long delay on getting the last post out.  Life happens and I got busy with school work and the baby.  I have continued reading though!  I will share with you what I have been reading during our absence.  Keep in mind that I haven't posted in a month, so I have a lot to share!

The first thing that I want to share is that I finished reading the Hunger Games trilogy.  Finally, right?  I am a little behind on this craze, but I am glad that I jumped on.  I read the first book out of curiosity and I couldn't put it down.  When I shared that I finished the book with my husband, he said that he saw the movie and it was good.  So then, I went on the hunt to find the movie in the redbox and watch it.  in my opinion, that movie was the best book to movie rendition I have seen in a while.  I think they did a fantastic job on it!  Anyway, so after finishing the first book and movie, I went to the library and got the second book.  I ended up finishing that in a day and I traveled a town over to get the third book so I could continue on.  I loved them!!  I thought the whole series was great!  Definitely recommend this series to everyone!

The second thing that I have been reading is the Pretty Little Liars Series.  Anyone out there read these books?  You may recognize the title as these books share a title with a TV series on ABC Family.  I was interested in the show but I never watched it and when I found out that it was based on a book series, I had to start reading them.  I have read the first, second, and third books in the series.
For me, these books are ok.  They aren't perfect and some of the actions can be fairly predictable.  I have heard that the TV show is very good so I am placing my hopes on that.  Being a teacher, I think that these books will allow some of my female students to connect with characters and have something interesting to read.  I will continue reading the series and keep you posted.

The third thing that I have been reading is a recommendation from a professor.  This series is a children's series called The 39 Clues about a family quest for, you guessed it, 39 clues that two orphans, Amy and Dan, take part in.  The books are great.  Even though they are children's books, they offer mystery and great character and plot development.  I just finished reading the 6th book in the series and I hope to continue on as soon as I can get my hands on some more.

I hope you enjoyed this little update about what I am reading right now.  I hope you continue to visit as I add and expand my reading repertoire.  Thanks for visiting!

Biographies...my new reading material

OK, so I am not much of a nonfiction person.  I don't even go to that section of the library or bookstore unless I am looking for something specific.  But, I decided that I could try to read biographies or autobiographies because they seem like they would be interesting.  I figured that they had a character and plot line that I could connect with, like the fiction books I am so fond of.  Well, I just finished two autobiographies  or memoirs I guess they are more accurately called, I want to tell you about.

This first memoir I finished was Sliding Into Home by Kendra Wilkinson.  This book is all about Kendra from the TV show The Girls Next Door and Kendra.  It chronicles her life from when she young and into drugs through her time at the mansion and her marriage to Hank.  If you are familiar with the shows, this book shouldn't have a lot of surprises.

I really liked the book.  Kendra has a way of bringing you into her story without trying to make you feel sorry for her.  She basically tells it like it is and if you don't like it, too bad.  As far as my first memoirs go, not too bad.

The second memoir I want to tell you about in this post is It Ain't All About The Cookin' by Paula Deen.  This book talks about Paula's life from her childhood up through her two marriages.  It catalogues her triumphs and defeats and she really talks about things in a realistic way.  She doesn't sugar coat the bad things that happened to her.  I had a blast reading this book.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my post about biographies.  I am not sure if I am going to continue reading biographies, but I am glad that I read those two.

Introduction...All About Me

Hello everyone!  Let me tell you a little bit about myself and why I am writing this blog.  I am currently a stay-at-home mom.  I have a beautiful 9 month daughter and a wonderful husband in the navy.  I decided to leave my job teaching high school biology so I could stay at home and go back to school for my masters degree.  My life is pretty busy, but it is great.
I decided to write this blog so that I could share my love of books and reading with other people.  I love to read and I have been trying to branch out on the genres I choose.  My husband is away a lot so I can't really share this love with him and my family doesn't read much for pleasure either so it's just me.  I needed somewhere to write about the wonderful books I am reading and hope to share the love and inspire people to read different books as well.  On this blog, I plan to share books as I complete them and tell what I thought about them.  Hope you enjoy!
